Health & Safety

Health and Safety is not something we do, rather it is part of our daily life.

It is better to spend time now thinking what could be, than it is to have to think about what could have been done to prevent injury and loss.

We will endeavor to ensure no injury, illness or adverse affects are suffered by anyone who attends our sites, offices or businesses.

Our target is to:
Achieve a zero accident/incident organisation where all employees actively contribute to our Health, Safety and Environmental objectives.

“I live opposite the works going on at this site and I would like to congratulate the staff for the work they are doing. They have worked extremely hard and efficiently and with good humour, well done!!!”

“I just wanted to say thank you for your business over the past few months, Paul and the guys have been absolutely lovely house guests, they have treated my place with the greatest respect.  Moreover, they were well regarded by the village locals who have on many occasion told me how nice they were; a total credit to your company.

Once more, thank you and I hope one day I may be of assistance again.”

“Work commenced on the road works on Monday 26 October on the outskirts of the village in Wadebridege road and has progressed steadily past Jorys Meadow, The Community Shop then Oak Park and on to the junction of Boddinick Lane and Wadebridge road. All these sections of work have been carried out under a Road Closure and they have exceeded our expectations in regard to timescales. The cooperation of the village residents has been absolutely key in us progressing so well and has been much appreciated given the strong feelings about the project itself.

The end of this week should see a large section of the trench work completed and tarmaced in Wadebridge Road. The next section of works will take us from our current position in the entrance of Boddinick Lane around towards Chapel Road. These works will be carried out under temporary three- way traffic lights.”

You may not receive any congratulatory emails from there Parish Council who made such a lot of fuss about the proposed work, but on behalf of the Church Council I would like to thank you and the staff of Kier for an amazingly efficient manner in which the cable laying has been undertaken and completed (almost) within the village.

It has caused minimal disruption despite alarmist fears of isolation for weeks from the rest of the world. The absurd letters to the MP and Government Ministers have only served to demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the process of the whole operation.

Our thanks for a job well executed and tidily carried out under difficult weather conditions most of the time.

Regards, Geoffrey Gibbons.

Just a short note to say how impressed I was with the staff who carried out the work to put the power cables underground in Church Street, Braunton. Without exception, both the Western Power workers and the associated sub-contractors were courteous and considerate at all Wmes, especially when approached with quesWons about the work being carried out. They were all very well informed, being able to explain what was going on and the schedule of work.

I do realise that this type of work can be very disruptive to residents and passing traffic but both myself and other residents were impressed by the professionalism displayed by all the staff involved. It would be appreciated if you could pass on my thanks to all concerned, including the sub-contractors.

May Gurney have been working in our village for a number of weeks and we would like to compliment the crew. They were polite, helpful and very amenable. Nothing was too much trouble to them and they always dealt with any enquiry with a smile. Please pass on our comments to the crew.

Dear Mr Ferguson

I am writing a few lines of appreciation for the recent work by Western Power to restore full service after our rather disastrous loss of power on 7 December. I understand that the cable which failed was an obsolete type and, because of this, some creative thinking was required to find a solution.

We appreciate very much the time trouble and effort taken by your team. We were kept informed of the work plan and of developments as they progressed. Care was taken to ensure that power was continuous except for occasional very minor essential interruptions. Care was also taken to avoid any building damage despite the need for heavy equipment, sometimes very heavy, on a site never intended for such equipment.. The team was cheerful and helpful throughout.

The only names I can quote are Don Roseveare and Carl James but we are grateful to the entire team on the project.

Yours sincerely,

Dennis Cross

Dear Mr. Horrell,
RE The work on Mill Street Torrington

I am writing to thank the various teams working on the project for their efforts to minimise the difficulties caused by the closure of the road. They have been consistently professional, helpful, and adaptable.

My husband has limited mobility and they consistently were helpful in minimising the difficulty. Please pass on our thanks and thank you for the well organise support for us.

“A phone call from a gentleman called D. Hopkins who lives in Torrington.

He was full of praise for the chaps that have been working on the job above in Mill Street. He said they were helpful, fantastic and outstanding and would like them all to be complimented”
